PCAS Kent are providers of support for people with mental health issues, learning differences and autism. We require experienced Support Workers, to join our friendly teams.

You will be required to provide Service Users who live within the community, a person-centered quality service that meets individual needs.

Role description

  1. Help maintain development through individual support planning including:
    • Suggestions for change – new ideas and objectives
    • Create Opportunity – Education, training, volunteering, employment
    • Explore Goals – Aspirations and dreams
    • Updating records daily/weekly – measure impact and change
    • Maximise involvement from Service Users.
  2. Developing, with the Service User, future ideas and plans promoting increased independence.
  3. Ensure a high quality of life according to individual support plans and needs
  4. Respect Service Users rights at all times, ensuring choice and inclusion
  5. Ensure all Service Users needs are identified with person centred planning, and future aspirations and realistic goals are met, short, medium and long-term goals.
  6. Promoting and supporting family contact maintain good relationships with each Service Users relatives, friends and advocates.
  7. Communicate effectively with all Service Users, promoting equality at all times.
  8. Promoting positive and inclusive relationships are maintained within the community.
  9. Promote a wide and varied range of activities and services
  10. To ensure all Service Users are supported with their self-image and any personal care needs.
  11. To work according to your allocated rota

Main responsibilities

  1. To work with your staff team and others in the development of support, assisting Service Users with plans which accurately reflect their own needs, strengths and wishes
  2. To adhere to and remain familiar with all contents of the Company’s Policies and procedures, obtaining further information when required.
  3. Maintain effective knowledge of all company procedures and policies, help develop the company and its policies to provide outstanding support to every service user.
  4. To ensure that all statutory requirements are adhered to, familiarise yourself with local commissioning and main contracts under which we provide support (SIS)
  5. Actively assisting in the prevention of accidents to Services Users, staff teams and others
  6. To deal promptly and effectively with all complaints and grievances as per company guidelines.
  7. To support and develop the successful operations of quality control and administration systems.
  8. To positively support the use of innovative technology, bring forward ideas for improvement and development.
  9. Receive supervision/appraisals and identify your own personal training needs. Attending training days.
  10. To be involved in the development/training of staff where necessary, supporting any new inductions act as a mentor to new staff promoting the culture and ethos of the company.
  11. Promote housing cleanliness and maintenance to a sociably acceptable standard including maintaining up-to-date Health and Safety and risk Assessments.
  12. Supporting Service Users to maintain accommodation and grounds, recognise self-neglect and report any concerns
  13. Recognising poor or bad practise and reporting at all times anything which concerns you
  14. Promoting and adhering to all aspects of Health & Safety at work, making sure you report all and any issues that may be a risk to you or others.
  15. Positively represent the company values, culture and ethos at all times, represent our reputation and professionalism

Person specification

Essential Desirable
Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 2 in Social Care or Equivalent or willing to work towards the qualification
  • ECDL (European Computer Driving License) or equivalent qualification/ experience
Experience
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally in writing
  • Ability to empower people and encourage independence promoting dignity, privacy, confidentiality and human rights
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to plan, and work I systematically
  • Good level of numeracy, personal budgets
  • Ability to manage own workload and deal with stress and change in self and others
  • Ability to be a positive role model
  • Ability to prioritise and respond calmly to crises
  • Ability to prepare and present reports
